Kuala Lumpur, 28 July 2010
Signaling the readiness of its nationwide 4G network, which will be commercially launched in Q4 of this year, YTL Communications Sdn. Bhd (YTL Comms) today signed a collaboration agreement with Intel Malaysia to deliver superior 4G experience on its network to all Malaysians.
YTL Comms has an innovative lineup of 4G devices, which will be made available at the commercial launch. With this partnership, however, the power of YTL Comms 4G network opens up to a whole new range of consumer devices, such as Intel's WiMAX-ready netbooks and laptops, scheduled to be available soon after. This collaboration will include interoperability tests on YTL Comms 4G network by Intel to enable compatibility with Intel’s WiMAX/WiFi wireless chipset.
“Intel has been leading global WiMAX ecosystem development in terms of standards, chipset R&D and commercialization from the very beginning” said Wing Lee, CEO, YTL Comms. “Working with Intel to offer WiMAX-ready devices is an integral part of our strategy to unveil the country’s most robust and advanced 4G network.”
“WiMAX is the best solution available today that is capable of satisfying the demands of data hungry mobile Internet users. Intel is excited to work with YTL Comms and we believe this collaboration will help advance WiMAX uptake in the country and proactively contribute towards Malaysia’s national broadband plan to achieve 50 percent broadband penetration by the end of 2010”, said Ryaz Patel, country manager, Intel Malaysia.
Working closely with OEMs, Intel is providing embedded WiMAX laptops based on Intel® Core™ processors and Intel® Atom™ processors, and featuring the dual-mode Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 embedded solution to enable mobile WiMAX broadband Internet access, which will be certified and ready for use on the YTL Comms’ 4G network.
“At YTL Comms, we believe that the best way to deliver excellence is by taking a methodical approach to working with world-class partners. Through this philosophy, we have been busy building a nationwide converged 4G network with global technology leaders such as Cisco, Clearwire, GCT Semiconductor, Samsung, IBM, and Oracle. We are pleased to add Intel to this distinguished list as our newest partner. YTL Comms will continue to expand its ecosystem of 4G devices and services to make it as easy as possible for our customers to enjoy the benefits of our world class network and to play a role in propelling our country into an innovation-led economy” elaborated Wing.
