YTL e-Solutions Bhd (YTLe), one of four companies awarded a 2.3 GHz WiMAX spectrum in Malaysia, expects to roll out its services soon after an agreement was sealed with US-based Sprint Nextel's business unit, XHOM.
Executive chairman Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said YTLe has drawn a roadmap to implement the service and its collaboration with Spring Nextel would ensure successful roll-out of YTLe's fourth generation wireless broadband network in Peninsular Malaysia.
"This collaboration will facilitate YTLe's plans to develop and deploy a WiMAX network in Malaysia.
"XHOM will provide the expertise and experience it has gained from the roll-out of its own US-based WiMAX operations in key areas including ecosystem strategy, infrastructure design and network deployment," he said at the signing of agreement between YTLe and Spring Nextel in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Yeoh, who is also YTL Corp Bhd managing director, signed on behalf of YTLe, while Sprint Nextel was represented by its director for global development, Teresa Kellet.
Yeoh said XHOM will play a major role in the establishment of YTLe's WiMAX ecosystem, including assigning a team of specialists to support YTLe.
"Our time to market will become fast with Sprint Nextel as a partner," he said.
YTLe plans to deliver an affordable WiMAX package with fast, wide coverage, ubiquitous and always-connected voice, data and video convergence services that will complement and cater to the personal and individual communication needs of all walks of life as well as business community.
Sprint Nextel - which offers a comprehensive range of wireless and wireline communications services - is a global tier-one Internet backbone.
